The 19th World Scout Jamboree

The World Scout Jamboree was a week-long camp for Boy and Girl Scouts, Guides and their leaders from around the world. 34,000 people from 180 different countries camped in Picarquin, near Santiago in Chile. The Jamboree started with an opening ceremony on December 28th and ended on January 6th. While they were in Chile, the Scouts had the chance to meet other Scouts from around the world, to take part in activities on site and in the community and to celebrate the new year. The Scouts themselves raised the money to travel to Chile. A large farm in the foothills of the Andes was transformed into a custom-built camp site for the World Jamboree, an event which has taken place every four years since 1920.

This was the first Jamboree to be held in South America. The motto for this Jamboree was "Building Peace Together", reflecting the commitment of Scouting to peace.
